Lani Love

DJ + Style Blogger

Somewhere between the tell-it-like-it-is fashion blog Sugar Rock Catwalk that she started a few years back with two stylish pals and her immensely cool DJ sets at the best events and spots around Chicago, you’ll find Lani Love. The petit powerhouse sparkles with a style that is thoughtful and unique—the kind of taste level that accentuates her contagiously bubbly personality and specific point of view. Basically, we think she’s cute. Her adventures in DJ land started in 2007 in NYC, and four years later, Lani relocated to Chicago, setting up regular gigs at some of our favorite hotspots like Paris Club, The Bedford and Drumbar as well as DJ-ing for SXSW, New York Fashion Week and other high profile events around the country. From uber-cool grooves—she dishes her summer playlist favorites below!—to style and beauty splurges, we crush on this style star in this week’s G&F Spotlight.

Q: You’re the perfect mix of music + fashion. Who are your stylish chanteuse muses?
A: Solange. I love how her sound and style have developed over the past few years. I sing along to “Losing You” every time I play it, and her aesthetic really speaks to me. It’s bright and unique.

Q: And your own personal style?
A: Colorful, eclectic & playful

Q: If you could listen to one song on repeat, what would it be?
A: The Right Now “Call Girl (JKriv’s Alter Ego Mix)”. I’ve had this song for almost three months and I’m still not sick of it. It makes me—and the room—dance every time!

Q: Ultimate Summer Dance Party play list: GO!
A: Moon Boots “Got Somebody”; Deep&Disco “Hitney Whouston”; Daft Punk “Get Lucky”; Duke Dumont feat. A*M*E “Need U (100%)”; The Freshest “Call Your Name (Sammy Bananas Remix)”

Q: And now a few fill-in-the-blanks. I am always searching for…
A: Interesting prints and vintage.

Q: I splurge on…
A: Food and well-made shoes.

Q: I never leave the house without…
A: Chapstick or headphones.

Q: Have you ever styled yourself after the styling in a music video?
A: In junior high when No Doubt “Spiderwebs” was on MTV. You know, when MTV still played music videos.
