Kim DeJesus

Philanthropist, David DeJesus Family Foundation

Kim DeJesus makes baseball look good. Really good. As the wife of Cubs outfielder David DeJesus, the brunette beauty puts new meaning to giving back in style. And this week, her philanthropic roots are put to the test as David and Kim team up to present Strike A Pose, a night of fundraising for ALS research through the David DeJesus Family Foundation. The event—which will feature ballplayers new and old strutting their stuff on the runway along with their wives—is just a small piece of Kim’s lifelong goal of always donating her time to a larger cause. Her motto? ‘There is need wherever you go, so you can always make a difference wherever you are.’ And that selflessness says it all about the young actress and model. Since David signing with the Cubs, Kim is able to take her goodwill by storm in her hometown. Keep an eye on this giveback girl. She shares beauty favorites and more in this week’s G&F Spotlight.

Q: We have to ask: Out of all the ballplayers, who is going to be most fierce on the Strike A Pose catwalk?
A: Oh this is a funny question! I would say Matt Garza will ham it up. Or maybe Anthony Rizzo? He keeps telling Dave that he’s been practicing his runway walk.

Q: And who do you think might be a little out of their element?
A: Probably Tony Campana. I think he is nervous we are going to put him in skinny jeans.

Q: We have a feeling you’ve done this whole modeling thing before. Does it run in the family?
A: My experience is in print, not runway! The only runway I have done is in other charity fashion shows. One of my sisters is 5′ 10. She could have definitely done runway. She works with children who have special needs. And my beautiful mother is amazing and is a children’s ministry director. Giving back runs in the family.

Q: Beauty and Philanthropy? How do you balance it all?
A: I’m still working on this who balance thing! I grew up in a family that taught me that it’s important to give back. Before I met Dave, I spent several summers serving in different third world countries. I met some of the most incredible people while working in villages, orphanages, schools and infirmaries in some very poor parts of the world. These were all really life changing experiences and I promised myself I would always be committed to giving back.

Q: And now you’re doing it on your home turf! How did Strike A Pose come about?
A: Dave and I have always talked about starting up a foundation or do something bigger outside ourselves. When he signed with the Cubs, it brought a sense of stability to our lives since this is our hometown. It made it the perfect time for us to dive right in.

Q: You seem to have it all together—what’s the secret?
A: It’s no secret that what makes a person truly beautiful is what comes from the inside. I love to get dressed up—fashion is just too much fun!—and I’m very girly, but it is the layers underneath that make a woman truly beautiful.
