EVENT: One Strange Bird x Etsy Small Business Saturday Trunk Show
VENUE: One Strange Bird, 2124 N. Division
DATE: Saturday, November 29th
THE LURE: Small Business Saturday + (almost!) 50 degree weather + blue skies = A weekend to remember. In our Holiday hunt for the perfect gifts, we featured a few of our favorite local businesses with a beauty bend. But those weren’t the only storefronts who threw open their doors on Saturday, November 29th to usher in eager shoppers as part of American Express’ #ShopSmall initiative. Around the city, neighborhood events and activations added a little shopping incentive to gift seekers. And along buzzing Division Street, the quirky art and gift boutique One Strange Bird teamed up with Amex and Etsy to offer shoppers a special treat: Michelle Starbuck Designs jewelry—and a whole lot of it! Owning a small business comes naturally for Nicole Northway who comes from a long line of independent shop owners. “It was amazing to see new customers and favorite customers make the choice to support small businesses and handmade goods,” Nicole said, “It was very emotional for me!” Down the street from Nicole’s shop, artist JC Rivera commemorated the day with a graffiti mural outside of the Chicago Truborn Gallery. Bright bold colors begged passers- by to stop and take in the secret message behind his signature teddy bears: Shop! Small! >>
