PARTY: Above the Rails Gala for the opening of The 606
VENUE: The 606
DATE: Friday, June 5th
THE LURE: The city’s greenest thumbs—or fans thereof—gathered to celebrate the opening of one of Chicago’s sweetest additions to the city. Meet The 606, a 2.7 mile elevated stretch connecting six neighborhoods which opened its first phase to the public Saturday, June 6th. The night before, however, tastemakers flocked to the chicest new patch of green in the city to sneak a peek and celebrate the milestone that the City of Chicago, the Chicago Park District and The Trust for Public Land have unveiled. The Trust, a non-for-profit organization aimed to conserve land for the people, hosted the evening and wowed guests with a dynamic night that started with horn-heavy sounds by the Lowdown Brass Band and a walkway of treats by famed Chicago chefs. A 20,000 square foot tent lit up to look like a Windy City sunset awaited guests who dined and danced. The entire sold-out evening was a thoughtful and fun celebration of art and community raising over one million dollars to further the growth of The 606. Green with envy? You better believe it. >>
