G&F BLOG_Charleston Proud Mary Harper Poe

We’re majorly crushing on Charleston. From the perfectly groomed gardens to the rich culturally history the city has endured, this Southern gem is dolling out charm and ingenuity like no other. Situated right about the sweet smelling Flowershop, PROUD MARY is a haven for the wanderlust. Owner Harper Poe stocks the shelves with vibrant textiles sourced from global artisans—combining a modern design aesthetic with traditional methods of production.

There is always a happy moment when I am meeting with a group of artisans for the first time and discovering their particular craft, materials, and technique,” explains Harper. “I’ll get a million ideas of potential products to develop. Exploring the endless possibilities at those initial meetings is my happy place.”

We love Harper’s showroom of worldly wears, but more importantly we love how she shares her perspective on how to be a more mindful shopper and consumer. She says it all starts with buying less. and start to ask questions about exactly how products are being made. In a city that is built upon celebrating progress and respecting storied traditions and history, Proud Mary’s fashionable fair trade philosophy rings true.
