Dec 11, 2013 >> Get The Look! Super-sized Chignon

We’re just nuts for the holidays. And when it comes to our most favorite time of the year, getting all dolled up is part and parcel of the season. Last week, we shared how to get our Tinsel Town inspired look with vintage bombshell waves.

And now, here is another very simple hair how-to to put in your holiday party rotation. Ford artist Heather Schnell gets her hands dirty on camera to build the perfectly oversized chignon. Afterall, if there is a time for excess, it’s in December.

SUPER-SIZED CHIGNON HOW-TO

STEP ONE: Smooth the hair into a pony tail. Make sure the pony tail is high on the head but not on the top of the head.

STEP TWO: Take a small section of hair from the pony tail and wrap it around the pony tail holder to conceal it. Bobby pin the ends into the hair tie to secure.

STEP THREE: Take the pony tail hair into small sections and back brush each section of the hair. To back brush, get a large bristle paddle brush and hold the hair directly up from the head. Start in feathering motions at the base of the hair and work your way to the ends. You should have 6-8 sections.

STEP FOUR: Lay the hair back away from your face and start to lightly smooth the top layer of the hair down. Do not brush through all of the hair.

STEP FIVE: Once the top layer is smoothed, tuck the ends of the hair under and bobby pin them to the bottom part of the hair tie. You should start to create a rounded shape.

STEP SIX:Cup your hand around the sides of the hair and bobby pin going straight inward to finish the chignon.

STEP SEVEN: Set the hair with a strong hold hairspray.
