Oct 4, 2012 >> Travel like a Pro. Neat Method gives us pointers for clutter-free trips
This week’s Spotlight features one of the founders of Neat Method, Ashley Murphy, who shares some tips on how to stay organized. We’re suckers for a great stack of linens. And any type of color-coded filing system. And don’t even get us started on folding t-shirts.
After our interview with Ashley, we wanted more: tips for travel! As weekend jaunts are in full force, we tapped Ashley and her partner Molly Graves, the Neat Method duo, for their organizational musts on traveling. See their full list below:
START WITH A PACKING LIST
The OCD in us likes to know exactly what we have for each day of the trip.
PACK LIKE A MINIMALIST
Pick two of your favorite pieces and then think of different ways to wear them. Tucked into a skirt, with a pair of jeans or shorts with a cute jacket. We love compressible packing cubes to help save space!
SMART LAYERS!
The secret to successful traveling to areas where the weather is a little frisky is knowing how to layer! Pick your basics and bring multi-purpose pieces—cardigans, blazers, long sleeve basics, scarves—in order to add on or take off depending on the forecast.
ORGANIZE YOUR SUITCASE
Shoes should be packed around the outer edges, as to not damage or dirty any clothing. We recommend the Eddy Shoe Bag to keep them completely separated from your clothes.
ORGANIZE YOUR ELECTRONICS
Since there are so many gadgets to travel with, we also must make sure they are efficiently packed so they don’t take up a lot of room and the cords don’t get tangled. We love the Cocoon Grid-It! organizer for this. Oh and make sure to pack this on top…no one likes digging for these lifelines after a long trip.
And for an ingenious product: The Everpurse. A purse that charges your iPhone for you. With no plug.
One of our favorite recommendations is to pack everything up right (or vertically). Basically, we fold all of our clothes normally and then place them in rows so that you can see everything you brought! It’s also a major space saver. Here is an example of the type of folding and placement we are referring to.
TRAVEL IN STYLE
We love these Personalized Tags for the finishing touch to a well-organized suitcase.
