Aug 24, 2012 >> Roy Fever! We’re paying tribute to the comic strip king
Oh, the (melo)drama! Roy Lichtenstein is, without a doubt, one of the most influential modern artists. His comic-like creations of swooning damsels in utter distress still make us LOL. Basically, he’s the originator of #whitegirlproblems. And the artist is still inspiring fashion designers and fellow artists decades later. (I mean, aren’t we all dying for Phillip Lim’s latest collection?)
Through September 3rd, the Art Institute of Chicago is hosting the Lichtenstein Retrospective. With nearly 200 sculptures, drawings, and paintings, this is the largest group of the artis’s works ever assembled. While we always love to wear art, experiencing the real deal in person doesn’t quite compare. Time is running out, so we suggest you throw on your “KAPOW” T-Shirt and head over to the Art Institute. Here are our picks to re-create the perfect Roy girl—melodrama not included.
