Mar 1, 2012 >> Jo Levy shares Bridal Beauty Trends for the Season

Make up artist (and this week’s Spotlight!) Jo Levy has a soft spot for Bridal Beauty, so leave it to her to be at the forefront of beauty trends for the season. We spend a little more time with Jo and she translates key trends for the season into the perfect bridal look.

SKIN >>
The first make up trend that never goes out of style is great looking skin. I recommend facials once a month at least 3 months prior to your wedding day. Also, be sure to keep your skin care routine consistent. Dying to try the latest anti-aging serum or moisturizer a few weeks before your wedding day? Skip trying new products until after the honeymoon so you don’t aggrevate the skin or run the risk of breaking out from an unfamiliar product.

Primers are an essential for your wedding day, stick with an oil free formula that will  allow you to achieve a long lasting, photo ready finish.

EYES >>
A make up look that’s on trend for Spring and is one of my favorites to recreate for brides is the modern take of a Cat Eye. Or in this case: A Kitten eye.

Here’s how to do it: Line the top of the lids, close to the lash line with a gel or water -proof cake eye liner and flick your brush up once you reach the end of the eyelid. Skip lining the lower lashes all together and add several coats of mascara on the top lashes and just a dash of mascara along the lower lash line. I am a huge fan of faux lashes: they help accentuate the eyes by giving your lashes more volume and length. A tip: go with faux strip lashes that have a feathery effect versus fringy lashes that are often too heavy and can look more obvious. Keep the lids clean with a sweep of beige or  taupe matte eye shadow.

Another trend for Spring seen on the runways that can easily be adjusted for bridal is the classic smokey eye. Yes, it’s been done to death but the bridal version of a smokey eye should be brighter and not as dark.

Here’s how to do it: Sweep shades of shimmering gold and bronze, or silvery plums from the lash line to just outside the crease for a softer finish. Skip heavy liner and be sure to add several coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes for a doll-like effect. As a finishing touch, dab a light toned shimmering loose eye shadow powder into the inner corners of the eyes for a doe eyed effect that instantly brightens up the eyes.

LIPS >>
Bright shades are definitely back for Spring, however, for your special day, skip the neon-like shades and opt for a creamy lipstick or crème-gel stain in a shade of bright coral, red or fuscia pink. If you opt for color on the lips, be sure to not go dark on the lids to keep your look fresh and modern.

CHEEKS >>
I am a huge fan of blush, it’s the one make up product that instantly brings your complexion to life and allows you to achieve an instant healthy glow. On trend for Spring: doll-like pretty make up. Get that ‘Blushing Bride’ look (literally!) down pat with a pop of pink or coral toned mineral powder or crème-based blush.
