Mar 21, 2012 >> DIY: Elise Bergman makes a Beautiful Hair Bow for G&F

We’re crazy for fun DIY projects. And no one does it better than Chicago-based designer Elise Bergman. Her eponymous collection of feminine and playful pieces cements her as one of our local favorites. And talk about staying up on trends: Elise’s use of color and pattern in her line is ahead of its time… and then some.

We’ve been loving oversized hair bows this season (you know, the kind that you used to wear for school pictures) and we asked Elise if she could help us make one. Simple enough, right? She shot all the steps and we looped it together in this handy little GIF. If you need more clarification, we’ve typed out the directions all below plus the printable template. Now bow crazy!

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Fabric (the more fun, the better!) // Scissors // Needle // Thread // Hairclip

Cut fabric from template
Sew along stitch lines, leaving an opening
Turn inside out
Use needle to get corners to come to a point
Baste at center of bow to create gathering
Feed smaller piece through clip back
Wrap smaller piece around clip front and bow
Sew stitched end over raw edge
Shift seam to clip back
Sew smaller piece to bow to secure
Sew bow to openings in clip to secure
And done!
