I love heels. Obviously. But there is a dark side to heels that you try to convince yourself will never impact your gorgeous feet. And the older generation so kindly likes to remind us of on a regular basis—“You know when you get older those heels are going to hurt you!”
I would like to consider myself a connoisseur of heels and could never imagine not having them in my life! Turning 30 this year, I thought it would be interesting to start exploring my health and see if any of these “Urban Legends” are actually true. And damn, they are! Heels actually do have a negative impact due to the uneven weight distribution which can impact your posture by encouraging hamstring muscles to shorten. I’m sharing with you a scan of my heel— the left is my feet and the right is how my feet should look. Yikes!
I can no longer wear six inch heels to the office everyday if I want to walk when I am older. I’ve allowed a three inch heel to creep into my closet (and possibly even a Lanvin flat for Spring). I have also had orthopedic custom insoles made to slip into those sweet, sky-high heels that are grandfathered into my collection! I am on the road to Fashion-Before-Comfort recovery. Consider this your friendly Corri Fashion Health Alert!
HEEL’S TO YOUR HEALTH!
