G&F BLOG_open secret studios

It’s not often you stumble upon someone like Evelyn Daitchman—a woman with an eye for treasure and a heart for the hunt. Evelyn has been collecting vintage clothing since 1980 and has the craziest closet of the most beautiful things to prove it. And now you have the opportunity to peruse Evelyn’s loveliest pieces and wackiest finds at the Open Secret Studio sale this upcoming weekend.

Evelyn created the Open Secret Studio in the West Loop four years ago as an event space and hub for all things art, fashion and culture. She explains, Open Secret Studios became a force of it’s own, and even though the space had a brief but brilliant life, it changed hers forever. You may remember us playing around the gorgeous space in our Valentine’s Day editorial a few years back—Ring a Bell? We thought so.

Evelyn is closing up shop and hunting for her next adventure, but she’s leaving some of her collection behind for all you vintage hunters out there. From Hishinuma Yoshiki to CoSTUME NATIONAL to Moschino, Evelyn’s collection is curated with one of a kind pieces with dazzling details. You’re not going to want to miss this treasure trove! Not only is her collection a vintage purveyor’s dreamland, Evelyn has a magical personality with stories and tales of each item she collects—so be prepared for an anthropological approach to your purchase. She waxes poetic on one of her favorite finds:

“I saw a woman trying on an opera-like coat made from a fine woven wool, a paisley throw from the 1800’s in the most amazing colors which had been cut and carefully made into a gorgeous coat, rich raisin brown, orange that is the Yves “Klein Blue” of orange with bits of a moss green worked into the paisley and the most elegant detailing,” explains Evelyn (who openly jokes that she’s never been one who can talk succinctly!) “Fortunately the piece didn’t fit that woman and she wandered off into the next stall. I tried it on, and it was a resounding yes!”

Not so much into vintage? Not to worry—Evelyn’s taste for all things stylish extends to the home too. Tables, chairs, kitchen items, props: she’s got these things in droves too and ready to roll out.
